dear god,
i make a comment on some random midwifery blog saying basically, yeah, midwives arent saviours.
now they’ve got all their panties in a tizzy.
i think at this point they have accused me of everything but eating human babies…
im not linking to it, cause well you dear readers do not want that kind of toxicity in yr brain i bet…
but i will say: in the end, the only person who can save you, is yourself.
oh and here is a link to something actually worth reading: john ross’s outlaw/revolutionary life (he wasnt a midwife, but he was definitely an inspiration for how to live in this world.)
just wanted to say i read your comments on that blog post and appreciate what you wrote. i think some of the others’ comments on that post were ridiculously attacking and obnoxious towards you and i was sorry to see it.
also, sorry to read about the squat mag issues – but so not surprised too unfortunately. i used to be a lot more involved in activist stuff but it got quite discouraging, the hypocrisy found wayyy too often. i still try to do my thing to help, but now i do it in little groups rather than trusting some general movement. also, got out of the u.s lol. so that helps.
anyhow, i’ll be back to read more. thanks for writing.
ah..thx for reading…yeah my activism is much more selective these days. i feel you. hypocrisy is a beast.
Hi, I found your blog because of the comments you left on THAT blog. UGH! So disgusting. Everything you said was valid and, as I said in my comment over there, not even that critical of the essence of the original post as much as of the assumptions it made. And even if the blog poster doesn’t agree with you at all, her response to you was just so arrogant, snide and straight up mean. It makes me so angry!
I am Puerto Rican and getting ready to go to nursing school to become a nurse-midwife. Much as I love being immersed in women’s health care issues and health care in general, I worry about what this experience will be like. When I went to an interview at an expensive ivy nursing school, I was the ONLY face of color (at least visible to me). Only. No one black, no one Asian, certainly no other curly hair Ricans! This is a big problem in midwifery and nursing. That blog post makes me feel less hopeful about the faces of the practitioners actually matching the communities they are supposed to serve.
